2010 Adidas Sunshine Showcase Vol. 1

It was an all Florida Rams program final on Sunday at the Adidas Sunshine Showcase as the Florida Rams defeated the Florida Rams Black in the championship program. Two of the tournament’s final four favorites, South Florida Elite and Florida Elite, were knocked out by the 561 Select and the Florida Rams White, respectively.

2011 – Anthony Anderson, 6’4 Combo Guard, Florida Rams Black – Anderson is a taller guard from West Boca High School that can play all three perimeter positions. The first game we saw he got off to a slow start, but the second and third game he showed his ability to take over games. He shot the ball very efficiently on the weekend from the three point line and midrange. Anderson has a good strong frame on him and he did a good job using it to get in to the paint and finish at the rim or with floaters.

2012 – Tyler Bergantino, 6’9 Center, Florida Elite – The skilled center from Nature Coast High School didn’t have his best stats for games that we have seen, but he scored the ball at a high rate when he touched it in the post. He faced-up for fifteen feet and in jump shots, and he scored with right- handed hooks and up and under post moves. He needs to do a better job of rebounding when he is not getting post touches, but this kid has some upside. He is not the athlete that the other top post prospects are in his class, but he has a higher skill level than they possess at this time. The better shape, and more mobile Bergantino becomes, the higher his college recruitment will be.

2012 – Stephon Blair, 6’9 Forward, Florida Rams – Blair is a strong and athletic forward from Dillard High School that will have every high major instate fighting over his signature on the NLI. Blair used his strength and athleticism to dominate the paint offensively and defensively finishing every game with multiple blocks and dunks. Blair plays with a high motor and an aggressiveness that leads to put-backs, tip-ins and out of area rebounds. Stephon has a good right-handed jump hook, and knocked down a few fifteen footers, but facing-up and shooting is not a strong point for him yet. He has a good skill level for his age, and his skill set has improved since the high school season, and if he keeps working on his skill development Blair will be turning heads in July

2011 – Jacoby Brissett, 6’4 Guard, Florida Rams – Brissett is a 6’4 tough as nails guard from Dwyer High School. After having a three hour football practice Saturday morning, he came in to Pope John Paul II right before the Rams first game started, and led them to a win. Brissett, has a big strong football body, but he was the most crafty guard we saw this weekend. He used his size and strength to get into the paint, and when he was in the paint he showed off his creativity by using a ton of shot fakes and pass fakes. He banged for rebounds with centers and forwards, and was running the point for the Rams at the end of the game in crucial possessions. He didn’t shoot it great this weekend, but he used his craftiness to get to the free throw line and earn several assists.

2011 – Adonis Burbage, 6’4 Guard, Florida Rams – Burbage is a 6’4 guard who led Orlando Christian Prep to the Class A state title this year. He is a good athlete, who has a very good midrange game. He is very effective pulling up off of one or two dribbles and stopping and popping for a midrange shot in transition. He does a good job finishing at the rim, and has a wiry frame that could support some added weight. Adonis is a solid shooter from the perimeter, but has a far more efficient shot at fifteen feet. Burbage did a good job rebounding from the wing position, and had a good effort defensively all weekend.

2012 – Sean Culkin, 6’6 Wing, Florida Rams – Sean was the most athletic wing in attendance at the Adidas Sunshine Showcase for the 16U and 17U division. Sean had multiple and-one dunks, and flushed a few that brought the crowd to their feet. Culkin has a great body, and is an explosive athlete and does a good job of using that to finish around the rim and grab rebounds. When Sean develops a consistent three point shot, some midrange scoring moves, and tightens his handle, the Indian Rocks Christian wing will make a name for himself.

2011 – Dennis Diaz, 6’5 Shooting Guard, Florida Rams Black – Diaz came into the event with a reputation of being a shooter. The lefty displayed his sweet stroke in several games for the Florida Rams Black program. Diaz is a player that runs off of screens for three’s or has his teammates drive and kick to create for him. Diaz needs to continue to develop his one to two dribble pull up game, and work on his ability to create his own shot off the bounce. The 6’5 guard from Deland High School has already committed to Stetson University.

2012 – Ismalia Douda, 6’10 Center, Florida Rams – Douda is a strong physical post presence, who does a very good job of rebounding the ball in area and out of area. Ismalia did most of his scoring off offensive rebounds, or passes dropped off to him by guards penetrating the paint. Douda is a good athlete and used his size to alter shots in the paint. The 6’10 center from Grandview Prep already has a University of Miami commitment, and he will truly blossom when he develops offensive skills and a plan in the post to go with those skills.

2012 – Michael Frazier, 6’4 Shooting Guard, Florida Elite – the 6’4 guard from Plant High School opened up the first game we saw with several made three point shots. Frazier got off to a high-scoring first half against the Florida Rams. Frazier has deep range, and great foot work coming off of screens. Michael has a very advanced pull-up game with the ability to hit bank shots, step-backs and fade-aways from 15-18 feet. It’s clear that Fraziers “bread and butter” is his shooting ability, and ability to make tough jump shots, but when they aren’t falling or they are being taken away defensively, he lacks the handle to get to the rim off the bounce. Frazier is one of the better wing prospects in the class of 2012 for the state of Florida, but he needs to expand his game by improving his ball handling so he can create his own shot, and get to the rim.
