Jonathan “Sponge” Holton, a 6’8 senior from Coral Gables High School, is taking a visit to Illinois this weekend. Jonathan helped Coral Gables upset Krop and win the GMAC title last season in a 63-61 thriller. That was the first time in over 20 years Coral Gables won the GMAC championship.

Holton, who transferred from LaSalle for his junior campaign, averaged 14 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, earning 1st team all Dade County last season. His stellar play during the high school season carried over to the summer circuit where Jonathan played for the Gold Coast travel basketball program.

“Jonathan “Sponge” Holton is an athletic wing that is getting better everyday. He shoots the ball extremely well from the three and can finish at the rim with a lot of power. Sponge rebounds the ball well, and is able to start the break as a point-forward. Off the court, he is a great person to be around and has a big heart. You can always expect a thank you after every trip!” – Jarrod Lazarus, Gold Coast Program Director

His play on the hardwood during the NCAA live period helped “Sponge” earn offers from East Carolina, Western Kentucky, FIU, Tulsa, High Point, Temple, Marshall, Rice, Murray State, Rhode Island and Oakland, among others.
