Scottie Wilbekin
Scottie Wilibekin has made a unique path to joining the 2010 recruiting class of SEC power University of Florida. Wilbekin was in the class of 2011 originally, but decided to graduate high school early, upon receiving a scholarship offer from the Gators to join the 2010 class.
Wilibekin led The Rock School in Gainesville, Florida to a 22-7 overall record, while averaging 17 points, 2.6 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals this season. Scottie is no stranger to playing up in age, because he has played varsity basketball since the 6th grade, and has started on varsity since the 8th grade.
Justin Harden – Head Coach at The Rock School said “Scottie and his father had discussed enrolling early at Florida with the coaching staff, and they needed a point guard for 2010, and when they didn’t get Ray McCallum, it became more of the possibility with Scottie joining the program in the 2010 class. They really liked Scottie, but they didn’t have a scholarship in the 2011 class for a point guard, so this really worked out well for him and his family. I think Florida is getting a good player in Scottie, even though he is a year younger, he has always played up in high school and in summer travel basketball. Even though he is only 17 years old, he is very mature on and off the court. Scottie has spent a lot of time in the weight room this off season helping prepare his body for the next level.”
